Of Note This Week

Curious. This is curious.

Curious. This is curious.

Each week, in addition to the links you can see by spying on my Google Reader, I compile a list of posts that interested me and post them here on Saturday. You can check out the ABDPBT Personal Finance, ABDPBT Tech, and ABDPBT Commodity Fetishism versions at your leisure as well. If you have any posts that were great that I missed, please send me an email and I’ll check it out before next week.

  • This article from the National Post lampoons Dooce View definition in a new window (along with other bloggers) as a hipster parent, despite (as she said on Twitter) the fact that she lives in the suburbs and drives a Mini van. Perhaps hipster is a state of mind? I don’t know. But it was a funny article, all the same. I have to admit I’m worried about Dooce View definition in a new window et al., though, with all the turmoil, and the Dr. Phil show, and now that she’s hard-selling t-shirts on Twitter. Are ad sales down? Wasn’t her book a New York Times bestseller? Is Jon going to have to go back to work? I don’t know. I’m going to stay tuned, though, despite myself.
  • I thought about doing some muckraking regarding the ironically titled Broad Summit that took place last weekend, but muckraking is hard work, emotionally speaking, and to be honest, I didn’t quite have room for it this week. Here is a recap from one of the event’s organizers. I encourage you to go over and share your thoughts on this event View definition in a new window as a model for blogging get-togethers. It sounds like it was lots of fun, though the sponsorship and exclusivity of invitations still trouble me a bit. Perhaps you can lend a new perspective.
