Imaginarium Train Table

by anna on January 4, 2009

Well, I don’t need to tell you that Mini made out like a bandit this Christmas. Not only did he get a ton of new clothes from one set of cousins, a bunch of new toys and books from grandparents, and a giant giraffe stuffed animal that is bigger than he is from another cousin, he got a ton of new train stuff, including this unbelievable Imaginarium Train Tableicon from his Grandma. It took me a while to put it together, but it’s quite astonishing now that it’s done. The thing has a bridge and tunnel that make special noises when you run the trains over them, as well as a working crane.

Please note the cross-branding opportunities provided by a train set with such detail.

And it even has a roundhouse, where the trains go to sleep at night.

Now, this is not made by Thomas the Tank Engine. I’d imagine if it were, it would cost thousands of dollars, based on their price points! But, the tracks are the same gauge, so you can use your Thomas toys on this set. It also comes with two storage drawers for extra tracks. Mini is loving it, and every time he runs his trains over one of the little sound effect things, he makes this kind of o-shape with his mouth, as if to say, “Holy shit, did you hear that?! I did it!

Nice table. Love the roundhouse. We did a train table for the just-turned-16-month-0ld this year too, but so far he mostly climbs on it and destroys the setup. He has a little bit of a Godzilla vibe.

My husband is a model train….freak, and I think, when I showed this to him, he was on the verge of suggesting we procreate, just so he could buy this for his (hypothetical) spawn. :)

Looks like fun.

Last Christmas, my 3 1/2 year was given the I train set from Santa – unfortunately I put it right next to the back of the couch. He proceeded to step off the couch onto one of the drawers and snapped the table in half. After a few months in the garage, I resurrected the table by nailing it to an old coffee table…OH, my point – It’s really fun, but don’t put it next to a couch or anything else a child can step off of!
