I was trolling through TJ Maxx the other day, and happened upon a cache of great board books for Mini. Since Mini understands Spanish about as well as English at this point, I threw in a copy of Oh, David in Spanish. These are all great titles, all marked at about 50% of their usual prices, and brand new, unlike the used copies on Amazon that are my other go-to option for board books. They will make great stocking stuffers for Mini this Christmas.

Yeah for you for thinking of books as stocking stuffers!

Sorry, my librarianship is showing. I’ll go put on a longer skirt.

It really says a lot about my hometown that, despite having a whole section referred to as “The Mexican Village” (it has been called this forever, I don’t really know how people aren’t freaking out. The yearly Mexican Fiesta where they have both a Mexican princess and American princess may have something to do with it) there are no children’s–or adult either–books in Spanish. Zero. Anywhere. We’re culturally inclusive over here, folks.

Do you have Marshalls and Home Goods out there? If so, they are a good source for bargain board books. Believe it or not, dollar stores sometimes carry good titles too. It looks the stocking is off to a good start.

aren’t you afraid mini will read your blog and spoil the surprise?
ha, no, he goes straight to his facebook page, silly.
a great suggestion too, esp. when he’s older, is to rotate books by season–minimizes clutter, keeps books nicer, and keeps some anticipation for favorite titles to reappear.

I go to TJMaxx to look for ties for my husband (how Donna Reed is that?), but I never go in the kids section. Good to know.
