L’Occitane 20% Shea Butter Hand Cream

There’s a good chance you already know about L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream if you frequent Sephora, but I thought I’d make sure everybody knows about it, because it is the best hand cream on the market. Period. I first tried this at the L’Occitane store at the Grove mall at Fairfax and 3rd, in the middle of LA and not far from LACMA and the La Brea Tar Pits. Did you know that the Grove is the single biggest tourist attraction in all of Los Angeles? No, not the best. Just the biggest. Why? They don’t have Crate & Barrel in Omaha? I don’t know. There is some kind of sad commentary about society there, but I digress.
So this hand cream is super thick because it contains 20% Shea Butter, combined with honey and sweet almond extract. And this is the perfect amount of shea butter to use, because any more than that would only suit somebody who plans to throw themselves directly into a cast iron skillet after spreading it on themselves. But you know, if that’s your thing, L’Occitane makes pure Shea butter as well.
The scent is pleasant, apparently a mix of jasmine and ylang-ylang essences, but not strong enough to conflict with your other perfume. I have searched long and hard for a less expensive substitute for this cream, since at $25 it is rather expensive, but to no avail. But if you are in the mood to treat yourself, or if you are a new mom who washes her hands constantly (like me), then it’s definitely worth it.
