I tried to run a text ad on Dooce to drive up my visitors to the site, you know, just a little experiment. There is a little PT Barnum in me after all.
Apparently, I am not the first person to have thought of this idea. I have found many text ads for (shudder) Mommy Bloggers and Sex-and-the-City crazed pink martini bloggers on there already. Mostly not interested in what they have to say (what is new), though some of them have cute websites. But whatev, it’s not prohibitively expensive and it’s worth a shot, right?
So I submit my ad, which is as follows:
POOR MAN’S DOOCE
READ ME READ ME READ ME READ ME READ ME READ ME
So, yah, not really overwhelmingly creative, but you know, neither was the poster I made for the party with the PhiDelts Sophomore year in college that said, simply, “TEQUILA AND CONDOMS.” And that totally worked.
Anyhoo, this morning I surfed on over to dooce to see if it showed up, and no dice. So I do some digging, and sure enough I see my request has been “rejected by the publisher.” Hmm. Not sure what this means. Maybe they want more depth to their ad copy? Maybe I need to use the word “mommy,” “chic,” or “kidlet” to be considered? Maybe she’s annoyed? I love dooce ! Hope she isn’t pissed. Maybe she thinks I’m a stalker? But I’m just your average, run-of-the-mill would-be identity appropriator–you know, like Tyra Banks is to Oprah. No hard feelings, k? Oh, and by the way, Mini likes older women.
