Ask Anna: Huge Comment Numbers?

Ask Anna Question:
I was wondering if you could please share how you styled the huge comment numbers you have. I’m a complete Thesis noob, still getting the hang of hooks, and can’t seem to figure this out. Thanks so much.

Sure! And it’s way easier than you’re thinking. No hooks involved. All you have to do is alter the CSS a little by adding this code to your custom.css file:

.custom dl#comment_list .comment_num a {
color:#EEEEEE;
font-size:90px;
font-weight:normal;
line-height:55px;
}

custom .comment_num a {
padding:1px;
}

The first part will change the size of the number and the size of the line that “holds” the number on the screen. The second part will add a little padding around the link that the comment number has, which is just something that I found was necessary after using the numbers this way on my site. Your mileage may vary.

This is one of those times that right-clicking on the element, looking at the properties through Firebug, and figuring out through trial and error is how I originally did it. It’s kind of time consuming, but it’s a good way to get the hang of how CSS works. But sometimes it’s easier to just ask. 🙂
